OPNsense® OSS security platform celebrating progress with 10th major release
July 17ht, 2019 – Middelharnis, The Netherlands – Deciso® is proud to announce OPNsense® 19.7 named “Jazzy Jaguar”.
This release comes packed with new features and security updates, either packaged in community plugins such as WireGuard® VPN, a fast and modern VPN that utilizes state-of-the-art cryptography, or as part of the core system like the introduction of firewall rule statistics.
OPNsense shares its success and longevity with the Jaguar, the third largest cat, as its celebrate its 10th major release. And just as this magnificent creature, the fight with the bad packets is finished quickly and decisively with an expedient return to normal operation.
OPNsense is the fastest growing open source security platform with an Open Source Initiative (OSI) approved 2-clause or simplified BSD license. Its feature set is extensive and ranges from router/firewall to inline intrusion detection and prevention. It is the only open source product that comes with the renowned Proofpoint® ET Pro ruleset at no cost in the form of the ET Pro Telemetry edition.
Simply put: OPNsense keeps the good packets flowing and the bad ones out, just as easy as that sounds.
The project is defined by its innovation through modularizing and hardening, simple and reliable firmware upgrades, multi-language support, HardenedBSD security, fast adoption of upstream software updates as well as a large and friendly community.

Version 19.7, further enhances the user experience by giving insight in automatically generated rules with the ability to guide users to the responsible setting with a simple click, introducing a community sponsored Spanish translation and simplifying bulk rule changes for the inline Intrusion Detection and Prevention system.
At the same time advanced users will find the new syslog-ng based remote logging options as well as the enhanced group synchronization support for Active Directory/LDAP environments very useful.
And, since the last major release, route-based IPsec is included into the core of the system as well as, through an extensive code rewrite, default gateway prioritization in order to influence multi-wan gateway selection behavior.
With the release of the book “Practical OPNsense” – by Markus Stubbig, the mission to make OPNsense the most widely used open source security platform is well on its way.
